The goal of the Integrated MSc-PhD program in Cognitive Science offered by the Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences (CBCS) is to help students to first develop a foundational theoretical base in Cognitive Science and learn the skills to pursue basic research in the field of Cognitive Science.

MSc-PhD Integrated program in Cognitive Science is being launched at the Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Science (CBCS) with multilevel entry/exit options as below –

Eligibility

The MSc-PhD integrated Programme shall be open to Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering/Medical/Management/Biological/LifeSciences/Psychology/related disciplines students with following satisfying criteria:
Students with a bachelor’s degree in cognitive science or allied disciplines such as Psychology, philosophy, linguistics, neuroscience, engineering, physics, mathematics, zoology, biotechnology, life sciences, medical sciences, and anthropology with at least 55% marks will be eligible to apply.

Selection Procedure

The admission Rules, process and reservation policy shall be as per University rules. Admission to the Integrated program will be based on a Nation-wide written test and Interview.

(A) Written Test
Admission to the MSc-PhD integrated program in Cognitive Science will be based on a Nation-wide Entrance exam COGJET (Cognitive Science Joint Entrance Test) organized by IIIT Hyderabad and CBCS, UoA. IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi also take admission through COGJET. For their Masters programs in cognitive science COGJET has 2 sections. Section 1 for general reasoning and Section 2 with objective (MCQs) assessment of knowledge base required for cognitive science with questions from Cognitive Psychology, programming, mathematics, statistics and neuroscience. Students with a GATE examination score in relevant disciplines such as biology, zoology, psychology, life sciences, engineering, physics, mathematics, linguistics, and economics could also apply to the MSc-PhD Integrated program in Cognitive Science.

The candidates who have qualified for JRF in CSIR/UGC/ICMR or any other equivalent national examination will also need to appear for the entrance test.

(B) The Personal Interview
Focus of the Personal Interview is on the aptitude for Cognitive Science and base knowledge of the related disciplines. 60% weightage is given to the Interview and 40% to the written exam.

Fee Structure
Rs 20,000 per semester needs to be deposited against Lab and library fee considering the multiple State-of-the-Art labs including the National neuroimaging facility at the Centre. University dues (Rs 5500 /- approx per annum) need to be deposited online on the fee portal of the University. A caution money of Rs 2000 (refundable) needs to be deposited at the time of admission. The Fee structure is as per the approval of the Advisory Committee of the Centre and University.

    How To Apply

    Students interested in applying to the Integrated MSc-PhD in Cognitive Science at CBCS, first need to register for COGJET 2023. Applicants can then download the form for the Integrated MSc-PhD program. The application form is available on the CBCS website and COGJET portal. The duly filled form for Integrated MSc-PhD in Cognitive Science, CBCS should be submitted via email to puneet@cbcs.ac.in. The deadline for the same will be updated on the CBCS website.

    There is no separate application fee to apply for the integrated program.
